Punycode is a domain name encoding system that has been internationalized. It permits the encoding and representation of Unicode characters for use in ASCII-only hostname resolution systems. This means that Chinese characters can also be used in a domain name. After that, the characters are encoded and transformed into an ASCII representation that Punycode can use.
A Punycode string must be decoded in order to be restored to its original form. Punycode uses a distinct encoding method to convert Unicode characters into the more limited ASCII character set. When decoding occurs, the ASCII format is restored to how Unicode characters were originally rendered.
